Arsenal vs Tottenham, the North London Derby, the one fixture were I wake in the morning feeling physically sick. Personally when the fixtures are released this is the first fixture I look for. How soon or long do I have to wait to get that all to familiar feeling again. Rivalry between the two teams did not begin until 1913, when Arsenal moved from the Manor Ground, Plumstead to Arsenal Stadium, Highbury, just four miles from Tottenham’s White Hart Lane thus beginning the rivalry that would last for 183 games.
My favourite memory in recent derbies has to be when Rocky Rocastle scored the winner at White Hart Lane in the semi finals of the Rumblelows cup to take us to the final. Other fond memories was when Merson scored the winner to take us to another final or when Henry ran the length of the pitch to score another spectacular goal were he would celebrate by sliding on his knees in front of the Clock End.
In recent years the gap has closed and Tottenham have got the better of us in recent games. Am I worried about Saturday, of course I am. Where we have just stopped and not improved as a team, Tottenham have brought well and have invested in a quality manager. So I’m not confident about the game Saturday, with recent results not going our way either. I would hope that as players that they don’t need to be motivated, the game in itself should be enough motivation. Come Saturday I will be supporting the team more than ever, as I know as a fan how much a win over your neighbors means.
