First real test for Emery’s Arsenal where we faced a team very similar to us with a new manager & new style of play. It was the first real test in my opinion & we couldn’t do enough. There were positive signs but we can only blame ourselves as we missed several sitters & handed the win to Chelsea.The lineup surprised me at the start as Iwobi & Xhaka started and there was no room for Lacazette & Torreira. We started the game at the back foot as we conceded twice inside the first 20 minutes thanks to our extremely poor defending & Marking. After that when we looked lively & were craving out chances, we started missing sitters where we should have scored comfortably specially those misses from our star man Aubameyang & Mkhi (latter scored a beauty after few minutes). Mkhi then pulled one back with a beautiful finish as he made for his miss & then set up iwobi to put us level at the break. But that wasn’t good enough as we should have scored at least 5-6 goals in the first half only if you look at the chances we missed.
Second half we started better as we put Torreira on & really should have scored before Chelsea introduced hazard and they started dominating. Then we tried our best with Ramsey & Lacazette coming on as substitutes but they just couldn’t change the game. Then later Chelsea scored towards the end & it was down to us only who kept encouraging Chelsea by missing our chances or by gifting them ball cheaply which lead to the third goal. We have to defend better in Premier league & will need to take our chances as well otherwise we’ll be far behind very soon. There were good sings too offensively but it was the defensive side, finishing & lack of mental presence that let us down yesterday.On to the ratings,
PLAYER RATINGS :
PETR CECH - 8
Kept making saves after saves & kept us in the game. He certainly worked on his distribution too as he looked more composed. Shouldn’t be dropped for now.
Bellerin - 4.5
He worked really hard offensively but couldn’t do his primary job of defending. Two of chelsea’s goal came from his poor play & now is the time for Lichtsteiner to start.
Monreal - 6
He was his regular self where he didn’t do much wrong but nothing fancy too.
Mustafi - 5.5
He can look great one moment & can be shit in the other. Didn’t do enough for my liking to stop Chelsea & made it too easy for them. Has to improve.
Sokratis - 5.5
Similar to his partner, he wasn’t solid enough & failed to keep up with the opposition. Defending needs to improve now as that is the weak link in the team clearly.
Guendouzi - 8
One of our best player on the day as this kid continues to impress. Gave another solid performance where he created chances & showed the most drive in the team. Keep this up & surely he has cemented his place in the eleven now.
Xhaka - 4
Struggled badly & looked out of pace again. Was rightly substituted at half time & will have to be drooped now. Can’t give him more time, needs a reality check.
Özil - 4
Another passenger throughout the time when he was on the pitch. He too needs to be dropped & get his head straight. Very poor from Özil as he looked invisible.
Mkhitaryan - 8
Good performance from Mkhitaryan as he looked our best threat going forward. Worked hard , scored a beauty & created another too but should have done better when he missed that sitter after Auba. Scored the first goal emery era too.
Iwobi - 7.5
Worked hard throughout and gave his all. Provided monreal the protection & scored a good goal. Was involved in the first too as he showed some good signs.
Aubameyang - 5
Missed the easiest chance of the game which surely costed us. Should do better when he gets his chances as his pace & movement is always a threat. Has to improve with his finishing now.
SUBSTITUTES-
Torreira - 6.5
Came on at 45 and looked better than Xhaka but didn’t look that convincing. He was sluggish at times. Certainly improved us but can do better.
Lacazette- 6
Tried but things didn’t work out for him. Was looking sharp until he gave the ball away for Chelsea’s third.
Ramsey-6
He also tried his bit but wasn’t enough to influence the game. Tried with an ambitious effort where he wasn’t far away.
