Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last few months you will be well aware that after over twelve years at the club Aaron Ramsey has played his last game in an Arsenal shirt. Although recently Unai Emery has stated that his replacement may be one of the young players already at the club this doesn’t mean Arsenal won’t look add another similar type central midfield player in the off season.
Here are eight potential candidates that Arsenal may look at.
Donny Van De Beek – Ajax
The secret on the entire Ajax team is well and truly out and the cost will be substantial. One of Europe’s top young midfielders could well be out of Arsenal’s reach. Van de Beek is unlikely to swap the Champions League for the Europa so Arsenal will need to secure that Champions League place to have any chance of what would be a dream signing.
Possible cost - £60m +
Adrien Rabiot – PSG
Although not a box to box player such as Ramsey, Rabiot is a very good passer and has a good work rate, both traits that Emery likes in a player that he has previously managed. Although Raibot is available on a free transfer his high wage demands may be a problem as the Gunners aim to reduce the wage bill.
Possible cost - Free
James Maddison – Leicester City
Maddison’s performances late on in the season have pushed him into the limelight. Signed from Norwich for £20m last summer the 22 year old scored 7 league goals and recorded 7 assists this season and is pushing for a place in the England squad.
Possible cost - £40m
Youri Tielemans – Monaco
Tielemans' 6 month loan spell at Leicester couldn’t have gone much better for both Monaco and Leicester. In 13 appearances the 22 year old Belgian scored 3 goals and produced 4 assists whilst also showing he can handle the hustle and bustle of the Premier league. Cash strapped Monaco will almost certainly cash in but other English clubs will be in the race.
Possible cost - £35m
James Rodriguez – Bayern Munich
Seemingly the player that nobody wants, Rodriguez who won the Golden Boot at the 2014 World Cup, has bags of talent but consistency is certainly an issue. Still only 27 perhaps the player just needs to find the right situation although he it seems unlikely that Emery could play both Rodriguez and Ozil in the same team.
Possible cost - £35m
Nicolo Barella – Calgari
The 22 year old Italian international playing for his home town club can play anywhere across the midfield but has been described in Italy as a true ‘box to box’ type player. Barella can pass the ball exceptionally well and isn’t afraid of a tackle either. Perhaps the one area he lacks in is goals, scoring just 7 in 96 club appearances.
Possible cost - £35m
Leandro Trossard – Genk
The 24 year old attacking midfielder recorded 14 goals and 7 assists in 32 league games for Genk this past season. In his 3 years at Genk Trossard has 24 goals and the same number of assists in 83 games attracting the interest of Arsenal and among others including Everton.
Possible cost - £20m
Ismaila Sarr - Rennes
More of a winger than a central midfield player but can play either left of right and therefore could play in a midfield 3. Sarr scored 7 goals in 33 league games adding 6 assists. He also scored 4 times in the Europa league including one against Arsenal.
Possible cost - £25m

Donny van de Been and Youri Tielemans would be dream signings for Arsenal . Do we have the ambition to make those signings though is another debate altogether
