The Rumour Mill: The (Potential) Departures Lounge

Much like incoming signings, each transfer window the Gunners are rumoured to be planning several departures ranging from youngsters to senior pro's and including everyone from the likely to the completely insurmountable.

Media outlets feed off snippets of information (often false) to drive stories into the rumour mill but who doesn't love a transfer rumour?

So here at the Clock End Talk Blog, we aim to put all those transfer rumours, no matter how ridiculous all in one handy place, whilst also rating the probability. The transfer rumours will be updated throughout the transfer window which closes on Thursday 8th of August.

Mo Elneny, Calum Chambers or Carl Jenkinson to Crystal Palace (for Zaha)
Source - Daily Star

According to recent reports the Gunners are willing to table one to three of combinations there of, of first team players in a bid to capture Wilfried Zaha. Aston Villa just yesterday completed the purchase of Tyrone Mings for £26.5m which has led many to raise the question; is he's worth that, how much can we get for Chambers? Elneny and Jenkinson aside, Chambers has a rising stock and after an impressive year at Fulahm in the Premier League (playing in midfield), he could fetch quite a tag. With all three on fairly high wages at Arsenal, the club will be looking to kill two birds with one stone as they lighten the wage bill and capture their primary transfer target. With Palace's loss of full back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, they're short in this position and whilst Elneny isn't a like-for-like replacement, Chambers and Jenkinson certainly are or can be. Will Palace be tempted? The negotiations rumble on...

Krystian Bielik to Leeds United - £6m
Source - HITC

The young Pole has had an impressive summer so far starring for his U21 national side at the Euros just last month. He was the embodiment of the perfect central midfielder which is somewhat of a surprise considering he's been know to most Arsenal fans as an up-and-coming centre back. And with the public chase of William Saliba (and others) to strengthen a desperate defence, the club seemingly aren't interested in giving Bielik a chance. He impressed for Charlton last season as well as he helped them earn a place back in the Championship. And as a result of an excellent last year, the Pole is now linked with Leeds United, who (as of yesterday) are officially in the market for a centre back after selling Pontus Janssen to fellow league rivals Brentford. One to keep an eye on that's for sure as Bielik will certainly interest a number of clubs across Europe.

Eddie Nketiah to Charlton Athletic - Loan
Source - The Mirror

An outward move for the dangerous young forward comes down to just one real decision; does the club keep him as their third choice first team striker or are they happy for him to see more minutes elsewhere? If its the latter then there will be a whole host on interested parties here and abroad. The first to show interest are Charlton Athletic who already have a good relationship with the Gunners in place having had Krystian Bielik on loan in League One last year. Following promotion, the Addicks will need a goalscorer...could Eddie Nketiah be there man? Rumours around are suggesting a bigger team or two could also be interested.

Calum Chambers to Lazio - £15m+

Source - HITC

The latest on the versatile Englishman is that Italian giants Lazio are rumoured to be interested in his signature ahead of the new season. A change in the ways of the Romans is on the cards as they missed out on European football again after a disappointing 8th place finish, and now reports state that they are looking to rebuild and acquire some of Europe's young talent to compliment their squad. It could be a deal that interests Chambers himself but I doubt it's one that'll interest Arsenal as right now he's a fourth choice CM, a third choice RB and a fourth choice CB. Things will likely change with signings and injury returns in north London but what does still remain is that he's English and homegrown. Arsenal need a homegrown quota and in all honesty, he had a fantastic season at Fulham and having only signed fresh terms last summer, the club should give him another crack at the whip this time around.

Carl Jenkinson to Celtic - £We'll take anything

Source - The Sun

The Daily Record initially reported Celtic's interest in Carl Jenkinson a week or so ago but its back again with Neil Lennon apparently keen to sign the Englishman. Following the exits of Mikael Lustig, Cristian Gamboa and Jeremy Toljan, the Bhoys are exploring all options for a new right back. What this space...there's usually no smoke without fire. But could his wage demands scupper a deal before its even started?

Laurent Koscielny to Borussia Dortmund - £10m

Source - Metro

Rumours of Laurent Koscielny's departure have resurfaced again of late as German giants Borussia Dortmund are seemingly interested. At Premier League level, its no secret that although our French centre half can still cut it, he does struggle to compete in three games inside seven days or two games in five days. His body's better days certainly are behind him and as such, a £10m income now is likely to be the better option than keep him for another year and lose for nothing this time next year. He's been a fantastic servant that only cost a little over £12m back in the day so should Dortmund (or anyone else) come knocking with a £10m bid, Arsenal and Koscielny could all be tempted.

Probability: 25%

David Ospina to Napoli - £4m

Source - The Sun

Talk of the Colombian keeper staying in Naples permanently accelerated over this past weekend as various sources were reporting the same story. After spending all of last season on loan in Italy, Napoli were always believed to be interested in keeping Ospina for the long term but a deal seemed to have gone completely quiet. However, the last two days, rumours seemed to have rocketed as Colombia kicked off their Copa America campaign. Its a shame that there's little return on investment for an asset that costed a little over £10m only a few years ago. Its disappointing again from Arsenal's commercial team but its another international earner hopefully coming off the club's wage bill so £4m doesn't tell the full story.

Probability: 80%

Lucas Torreira to AC Milan - £35m+

Source - The Sun

The rumour no Arsenal fan really wants to see surfaces for the first time, as CEO turned bottle-job Ivan Gazidis is seemingly interested in taking Lucas Torreira back to Italy. Torreira's former Sampdoria coach looks to be taking up the reigns at AC Milan and apparently wants his former midfield dynamo to join him. Having cost the Gunners £26m last summer and having been one of the side's best players at times this season, Arsenal are highly unlikely to let him move on, especially with very few other senior central midfield options to choose from. This rumour is probably hearsay and assumptions as Torreira former boss is the new man in charge and the press are putting two and two together and getting five.

Probability: 10%

Carl Jenkinson to Celtic - £We'll take anything

Source - Daily Record

Still living the dream at Arsenal, Carl Jenkinson could finally be offloaded this Summer as the club look to move on high earners who play very little. Jenko certainly fits into this bracket having only featured a handful of times last season under Unai Emery. Scottish press, The Daily Record have laid the first seeds for a move across the border for the boyhood Arsenal fan, and with Arsenal interested in Celtic left back Kieran Tierney, there could be legs in this move yet.

Probability: 25%

Granit Xhaka to Inter Milan - £45m+

Source - The Sun (and various)

A steadier season from the now Swiss international captain which saw his Arsenal side be a far better team with him in it still ended with question marks over his future. After the Europa League final, Xhaka said mutely that he 'is under contract with Arsenal' when questioned over his future but the arrival of Antonio Conte at Inter Milan seemed to spark real rumours. The former Chelsea manager is believed to be hugely interested in Granit Xhaka and according to sources, Xhaka was apparently keen to listen. This somewhat cooled on Wednesday though after he admitted to Metro, prior to Switzerland's Nations League semi final, that he is 'currently feeling very good both professionally and personally' at Arsenal and would be 'incredibly proud' to be named the next Gunners captain.

Probability: 50% - this could literally go either way at present

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to China (Guangzhou Evergrande & Shanghai SIPG) - £70m

Source - The Times

Upon signing for Arsenal in 2018, Aubameyang had an offer on the table from the Chinese Super League so it's no real surprise to see these rumours resurfacing now, especially after Arsenal missed out on next season's Champions League. Over recent years, we've seen an abundance of African and South American stars move to the CSL for big money; both in transfers fees and in wages. Aubameyang could at least double his current salary should he move but at the peak of his powers, it would be a severe downgrade in football and intensity. It would be a real personal money move which no one wants to see. It's an unlikely move anyway with Arsenal said to be keen planning to offer him a new deal this summer.

Probability: 10%

Laurent Koscielny to Fenerbache - £10m

Source - The Sun

After over decade of playing for the Arsenal, skipper Laurent Koscielny's time at the club could be coming to an end. With just one year left on his current deal, and no new one anywhere to be seen, the club are rumoured to be willing to cash in this summer with a view to signing a young long-term replacement. According to the Sun, Koscielny is 'open to moving on with Turkish giants Fenerbache among a host of clubs vying for his signature'.

Probability: 25%

Sead Kolasinac to Barcelona - £20m

Source - The Express

It's almost two years to the day that free agent Sead Kolasinac joined Arsenal and his time could be over already should Barcelona's interest be genuine, according to The Express. With the Spanish giants 'believed to be debating a move for the 25-year old', 'Arsenal are prepared to sell Kolasinac' to improve the transfer budget. A £20m fee for a player who signed on a free would represent a fantastic return, a surprise considering the club's severe lack of returns on the likes of Cazorla, Ramsey and Lucas. It would be good financial business for the club but with speculation over Nacho Monreal also in the press, the club won't want to rid themselves of both their senior left backs at the same time.
