Gooner to Gooner with @LacaZte

In getting to know more about fellow Gooners who we all interact with with on twitter, we asked LacaZte (Tom) who runs an awesome account a few questions about his story and how he became an Arsenal fan. We hope you enjoy the read. Tez

Hi I’m @LacaZte, or Tom. I’m a graphic designer/motion graphics designer based in the Arsenal community. (I design for anyone not just exclusively the Arsenal community). If you need a graphics doing go check me out, Twitter: @LacaZte (couldn’t resist the cheeky plug).

How did you become an Arsenal fan?

I’ve been a supporter of Arsenal since I was young. My Mum and Uncle are from North London and it’s my Uncle who got me into football.

Favourite Arsenal player, and why?

Tough question. If you asked me this a few years back I’d have told you Santi, his dribbling was unmatched and he was unplayable at times. I loved watching him, he was such a positive guy. Now it’s got to be one of Aubameyang or Lacazette, their linkup play is top level and I really think they boost the team spirit. A few honourable mentions are Hector Bellerin, love the guy on and off the pitch and he’s Arsenal through and through - definitely a potential captain soon. Also Mustaf- just kidding.

Favourite Arsenal moment?

Another easy question...
I can’t think as there’s so many but recently it’s got to be last years NLD, the Emirates was electric. I’ve never seen it like that before. That game had everything goals, drama and of course we destroyed them. Remember Dier telling Ramsey to sit down? That went well. Hopefully it’s a repeat against this time around.

Arsenal's best signing?

Recently, Aubameyang. He’s a world class striker and he brings so much positivity to the team. Our team’s energy has transformed since he’s come. He’s always smiling and bantering with everybody, we’ve got more than a striker with him - I think he’s improved Lacazette also. Quick mention too is Pepe, he caused Van Dijk and Robertson so many problems last weekend, I think he’ll be very good.

Arsenal's worst signing?
Shkodran Mustafi (not just going with the blind agenda, he’s just let us down countless times and it’s hard not to get sick of it).

Favourite player in today's team?
Aubameyang or Lacazette it’s very close... Maybe Auba scrapes it as he’s just such a legend.

Darkest Arsenal moment?
Probably all of the hate towards Wenger in his last few years of his management. No CL football too and things just looked bleak. On top of that we had no financial backing from Kroenke, whilst Wenger would be the scapegoat. Not a lot of positivity at all.

Do I see us winning any trophies this year?

Realistically I can see us clutching the Europa League or the Unai Emery Cup this year. It’s Emery’s second attempt with us and it’s his second year with us too. I think we’ve got a good chance. When we’re back up and running and all of our injured players are back we could really have a decent shot. Not to mention the January transfer window. Another Josh Kroenke masterclass is needed.

Where do I see Arsenal in 5 years?

Actually in quite a positive situation. As long as we keep hold of our young players. We’ve got Guendouzi who will be 25, Torreira 28 if still here too, hopefully captain Bellerin, AMN, Willock, Nketiah, Holding, Tierney, Nelson, Saka, ESR and the list goes on. Obviously we won’t hold on to all of these players but if we play our cards right I think we’ll be in a good situation come 5 years. Especially if we continue to like the recent transfer window then keeping Raul, Edu and co. will be very important.

£100million budget next season, who do you buy?

Whether it’s in January or the summer I’d get Upamecano - it’s unlucky that we couldn’t pull him off in the window just gone. Class defender and he’s still young. I’ve actually been wanting him for two seasons now. Him and Holding or Saliba would be solid. Just by buying a top class defender our defence suddenly doesn’t look too bad. Tierney and Bellerin too. Anyway, assuming Upamecano’s price tag would’ve dropped a bit I’d try get him for 60m then I’d use the rest to try and secure Ceballos. If not, buy another box to box midfielder or playmaker if Ozil goes in the summer. Then with the remaining 2 million I’d buy Messi, 2 million a year installments for the next 250 years.

Thoughts in Stan Kroenke and the new regime?

Optimistic. I’m trying not to get too “excited” but after what Josh said and the way we executed our transfers in the recent window was brilliant. Totally unlike Arsenal. Whether we had investment from Kroenke or it was our transfer staff setup, it was one of the best windows in years. The fact Josh said that this ruthlessness would continue is very promising. I can’t lie though I’m not completely sold yet. We need more than one window to make up for years of disappointment.
