It is finally done. It is finally Arteta's Arsenal. But for this one last game with Freddie in charge, the Gunners enter a new era come Sunday. Mikel Arteta's era.
Ljungberg will oversee one last game, a tough looking clash away at a resurgent Everton, who too have new pastures on the horizon, with Carlo Ancelotti incoming.
With Sead Kolasinac joining Kieran Tierney on the sidelines, Arsenal are sweating on the fitness of Hector Bellerin who is being assessed ahead of tomorrow lunchtime. Rob Holding and Mesut Ozil join the Spaniard on the assessment table with doubts over both ahead of kick off whilst Dani Ceballos remains out through injury but Granit Xhaka is available again after a concussion absence. Sokratis sits this one out through suspension.
Its a no lose now for Freddie, who leads the club for one last time against a hungry Everton side. We have seen Lacazette benched for Martinelli of late, and away at Goodison, this could be the case once again. In defence, it is down to the bare bones almost as problems at full back mean it could be Chambers and Maitland-Niles at each side respectively. Nicolas Pepe should earn the starting spot at right wing having been a consistent threat under Ljungberg, and whilst the defence is still all over the place, the Swede is left with very few options.
Our hosts, under the legendary Toffee Duncan Ferguson are almost reborn. They have reestablished a hunger that the Gunners themselves have been lacking, and its almost been a different Everton of late. They will definitely be without long term absentees Andre Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin, whilst there at major concerns over Lucas Digne, former Gunner Theo Walcott, Morgan Schneiderlin, Fabian Delph, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Djibril Sidibe. It could be a much changed from the Carabao Cup in mid week should these doubts make it though.
Expected line up:
GK: Bernd Leno
RB: Hector Bellerin
CB: Calum Chambers
CB: David Luiz
LB: Ainsley Maitland-Niles
CM: Lucas Torreira
CM: Matteo Guendouzi
CAM: Mesut Ozil
RW: Nicolas Pepe
ST: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
LW: Gabriel Martinelli
Prediction: 3-1 to a rebuilding Arsenal side.
