Arsenal's Greatest Game As Voted For By YOU: The Results.

 The results are in....

Arsenal's greatest game vote produced some surprising results. From the thirty games put forward, five did not receive any votes at all and therefore have been omitted from the list.

Interestingly, four games in the top ten did not immediately result in a trophy. Perhaps a direct result of the age of those that voted but seven of the games in top ten were between 2003 and 2006.

Here is the countdown........

The following five games only received one vote each:

May 1998. PL. Arsenal 4 Everton 0 (Highbury).

March 1998. PL. Manchester United 0 Arsenal 1 (Old Trafford).

April 1987. LC. Arsenal 2 Liverpool 1 (Wembley). (Pictured above)

April 1970. FC. Arsenal 3 Anderlecht 0 (Highbury)

April 2006. CL. Villarreal 0 Arsenal 0 (Estadio de la Ceramica)

The following seven games received two votes each.

May 1998. FAC. Arsenal 2 Newcastle 0 (Wembley)

May 1993. FAC. Arsenal 2 Sheffield Wednesday 1 (Wembley)

March 1987. LC. Spurs 1 Arsenal 2 (White Hart Lane)

May 1979. FAC. Arsenal 3 Manchester United 2 (Wembley)

December 1978. FL. Spurs 0 Arsenal 5 (White Hart Lane)

May 2017. FAC. Arsenal 2 Chelsea 1 (Wembley) (Pictured above)

March 2008. CL. AC Milan 0 Arsenal 2 (San Siro)

The following three games received three votes each.

May 1971. FAC. Arsenal 2 Liverpool 1 (Wembley)

May 1994. CWC. Arsenal 1 Parma 0 (Parken Stadium)  (Pictured above)

The Top 10........

10. November 2003. Inter Milan 1 Arsenal 5. (San Siro)

Having lost 3-0 at home to Inter Arsenal were in danger of not qualifying from the Champions league group stage. Arsenal took an early lead through Henry. Inter equalised with a deflected effort against the run of play. Goals from Lungberg, Edu, Pires and a stunning second from Henry sealed a stunning victory.

9. August 2020. FAC. Arsenal 2 Chelsea 1. (Wembley)

Arsenal's fourteenth FA cup was won with no fans in attendance due to the Covid 19 pandemic. New manager Mikel Arteta won his first trophy eight months after taking over as manager. Given that this was Arsenal' worst season in terms of league position for twenty-five years, the cup win thanks to an Aubameyang double was a route into Europe. Captain Aubameyang also managed to drop the cup before lifting it.

8. May 2002. PL. Manchester United 0 Arsenal 1 (Old Trafford)

Having won the cup 4 days earlier the Gunners went to Old Trafford in an attempt to complete the double. Arsenal were missing Adams, Bergkamp and Henry. Despite United's attempt to foul their way through the game, Arsenal held their nerve. A goal from Wiltord was enough, and Arsenal won the title at their fiercest rivals.

7. February 2006. CL. Real Madrid 0 Arsenal 1. (Bernabeu)

This was no fluke victory, Arsenal dominated for long periods and had the best chances, both before and after the goal. Thierry Henry produced one of his greatest games in a Gunners shirt scoring a sublime goal just after half time. Arsenal drew the return leg at Highbury to go through to the quarter final.

6. April 2004. PL. Arsenal 4 Liverpool 2. (Highbury)

After a disastrous week losing to both Manchester United and Chelsea in the Fa cup and Champions league respectively, Arsenal's season was in danger of collapsing altogether. Things didn't look good with Liverpool leading 2-1 at the break. Pires equalizer was followed by a sensational Henry goal before his third goal sealed the win and kept Arsenal's invincible season alive.

5. May 2014. FAC. Arsenal 3 Hull 2. (Wembley)

Arsenal had not won a trophy for nine years and things weren't looking good when Hull took an early two goal lead. A stunning Cazorla free kick just before half time was followed by an equaliser half way through the second half. The game went to extra time and Aaron Ramsey fired in the winner and the drought was over.

4. May 1971. FL. Spurs 0 Arsenal 1. (White Hart Lane)

Arsenal needed a win or a goalless draw to become champions and what better place to do it than away to your local rivals. Before the game Spurs captain Alan Mullary said "Arsenal have got as much chance of being handed the title by Spurs as I have of being given the crown jewels". With the game heading to the goalless draw Arsenal needed, Ray Kennedy headed in an 87th minute cross and the Gunners on the title at White Hart Lane.

3. April 2004. PL. Spurs 2 Arsenal 2. (White Hart Lane)

As long as Arsenal avoided defeat they would win the league at the Lane for the second time in their history. The Gunners got of to a flyer with two early goals. Although they ended up drawing the game, mainly thanks to a moment of madness from Jens Lehmann, Arsenal were celebrating wining the title in their neighbours back yard.

2. May 2004. PL. Arsenal 2 Leicester 1. (Highbury)

Again Arsenal just needed to void defeat, this time in order to complete the league season without defeatthus becoming invincible. Leicester took the lead with a goal from ex-gunner Paul Dickov, who looked a little awkward after scoring. Henry equalised from the spot before Vieira sealed it late on. The only current gold premier league trophy belongs to Arsenal.

1.May 1989. FL. Liverpool 0 Arsenal 2. (Anfield)

"A night of chilling simplicity" as stated by commentator Brian Moore. Arsenal famously needed to win by 2 clear goals to take the title from their opponent. Nothing like this had ever happened before and probably never will again. After an uneventful first half things livened up early in the second half when Alan Smith headed in from Winterburn's free kick. Despite Liverpool's best efforts to get the goal disallowed in was game on. After Michael Thomas had missed a great opportunity late on he more than made amends in the last-minute. "It's up for grabs now".
